At Chestnut Nursery School Greatfields, the Wren and Robin Room children have been enjoying their current book of the moment - ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’. The children have taken part in a variety of activities to bring the story to life, such as fruit tasting, making ‘ice cream’ for the caterpillar, which was corn flour, scented to smell like chocolate, strawberry and vanilla with ice cream cones, the children loved talking about what flavour ice cream is their favourite!
 
There was also messy play with props for the story to enable the children to act out the story how they remember it, and a butterfly colour sorting activity using tongs to pick up the pasta practicing our fine motor skills. The children were mini artists as they created lots of artwork based around the story. They have really enjoyed this story, learning all about the life cycle of caterpillars, to extend their interest we got some real-life caterpillars and are currently watching how they progress into each part of the life cycle!
