At Chestnut Nursery School Markyate, our children have been immersed in a rich variety of cultural and seasonal experiences that spark imagination and support holistic development.
 
For Diwali, they explored the festival’s traditions and created colourful firework art, building independence and gross motor skills. During Black History Month, they listened to stories about inspiring figures, dressed up to honour cultural heritage, and recreated African patterns using mark-making tools and rice—enhancing fine motor skills and cultural awareness.
 
Children also enjoyed carving pumpkins, dressing up, and making spooky masks to celebrate Halloween.
 
They enjoyed the storybook - 'We’re Going on a Bear Hunt', bringing the story to life through imaginative play and sensory exploration. Across the nursery, various themed activities have supported curiosity, communication, learning and confidence.
